In its patent (#6,630,507) titled CANNABINOIDS AS ANTIOXIDANTS AND NEUROPROTECTANTS, the U.S. federal government makes many impressive claims about CBD, stating that:

  • “Cannabinoids are potent antioxidants… they easily penetrate tissues giving them the ability to enter the central nervous system and brain.”
  • “Non-psychoactive cannabinoids such as CBD are particularly advantageous as they are non-toxic… and exhibit unique antioxidant properties without the undesirable effects of THC.”
  • “The antioxidant strength of CBD is significantly greater than that of either Vitamin C or Vitamin E.”
  • Research on Safety

CBD hemp oil is safe for the whole family, and more scientific studies are validating this all the time. Among the most prominent health care professionals who support the use of non-psychoactive CBD is physician and researcher William Courtney, M.D. Some of his research is here.

Endocannabinoids (and plant-derived cannabinoids) connect with receptors - called cannabinoid receptors - on the surface of cells. There are two main receptors, CB1 and CB2. It has been shown that Cannabidiol (CBD) strengthens and improves the efficacy of mitochondria, the power source for every cell in your body.

Studies on the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) have shown that apart from being regulator of homeostasis, the ECS also responsible for repairing damaged cells. Research has also shown that cannabinoids are able to target damaged cells without affecting normal cells, which means that the ECS can act as a biological defense system.

When a person ingests hemp oil, CBD, or other cannabinoids, these cannabinoid receptors are activated (CBD seems to have a higher affinity for CB2 receptors than CB1 receptors). Research indicates that when you supplement your ECS with non-toxic, non-addictive cannabinoids, it is possible to develop a healthier endocannabinoid system and, almost certainly, a healthier life.

The Endocannabinoid System is one of the new and outstanding discoveries in science. The ECS regulates a variety of biological processes, such as relaxation, feeding, sleep, certain inflammatory reactions and even cognitive function. In short, your ECS is responsible for the optimal function of your body - it's no small task!

Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body. However, while the Endocannabinoid System performs its tasks, experts believe that the function of the ECS is the regulation of homeostasis. It is difficult to define a system as complex as the ECS, but it is important to know that there are two types of important receptors - CB1 and CB2 - in the cells of the body. They are abundant in the brain and immune system. The body produces cannabinoids in a natural process (such as endocannabinoids: anandamide and 2-AG) that share chemical structures similar to cannabinoids derived from plants like CBD.

General Serving Size Guide

Once you’ve decided to try CBD and selected a brand, the next questions are often:

  • Which type of product should I try… Vape, Liquid/Tincture, Capsules, Creams?
  • How much should I take and how often?

The below information are mere suggestions that may help answer those questions. Everyone is unique, therefore each situation will vary depending on the individual. Starting slow and low and working your way up is always a good approach.

Additional Notes:

Tinctures: Many people notice effects from tinctures within a few minutes. It’s advised to hold the oil under your tongue for up to one minute to maximize absorption.

To determine precisely how many drops to give to reach your desired dose, you can use this CBD Oil Drops Dosage Calculator.

Starting at half of full suggested dose and increasing until obtaining desired results is what I recommend.

Caveat: CBD can be excitatory and high doses are more sedating. For this reason, starting low may not work for some people. If a low dose causes hyperactivity, increasing the dose, while counterintuitive, may actually help.

Vaping: The fastest acting delivery method, well suited for neurological and neuro-inflammation issues. Vape products penetrate the blood brain barrier in several seconds due to there being CB1 receptors located in the lungs which makes the uptake of the CBD immediate in the body. Vaping requires CBD vape oil / juice (different than the oil used for tinctures). Our product recommendations are on our web store. You must be 18 or older to purchase vape products, but the law does not regulate age for their use.

Topical Application: Most effective for localized skin conditions or pain relief only, unless you’re using specially designed transdermal patches to maximize absorption.

It’s sometimes advised to use CBD two hours away from medications, but some say that because it can increase the amount of a drug in your bloodstream, if taken with certain supplements or medicines CBD it will allow for lower doses, which could be beneficial. It is also advised to take at least 2 hours away from bedtime so that it does not potentially cause a stimulant effect, which it sometimes can in certain people.
